Join Jason P. Smith ’97 in a virtual event to discuss his pathway to becoming involved in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) work and what it’s like to be an equity professional in the current political climate. With a focus on navigational strategies Smith has used while remaining true to his core values—he touches on leveraging his Whitman and a liberal arts education to create the inclusive spaces he wants to see in the world. This event will be an interactive conversation with an opportunity for Q & A.
About Jason P. Smith:
Smith has had experiences as a Marine Corps officer, a community college dean and currently serves as the People, Empowerment and Connections Manager for Community Transit in Snohomish County, Washington. In these roles, and many others, creating a sense of belonging for the people he works with and leads is paramount. Smith discovered that there are surprisingly many opportunities to do this critical work and make an impact, it just might not be in the traditional jobs we think of.
